A Message from Coach Sam: April 9, 2020

Dear Tennis Friends,

Effective April 4 the Mayor of San Antonio issued a statement closing all park and neighborhood tennis courts as part of an effort to stop the spread of COVID19, temporarily shutting down our beloved sport in San Antonio. As such, I am supporting this effort by indefinitely suspending my "in person" tennis coaching service until local authorities deem it safe to physically engage in live face-to-face interaction again.

This is a very difficult time for everyone. My thoughts and prayers go to heaven daily for the sick, our health industry, law enforcement and other first-responders. I am also lifting up elected officials, the local church, those who have been affected economically, and especially those who have lost the ability to earn income to support themselves and their loved ones.

During this unprecedented time I ask for your continued patronage of my tennis coaching services.  (1) You may pre-purchase reduced priced lesson packages to be redeemed once we are back on the court.

Calvary Baptist Academy, New Braunfels, Tx

Calvary Baptist Academy hosts a select tennis team that competes in a spring season running mid March through the end of April. The program includes practices, organized match play, and tournament competition. We are currently recruiting for players.  If you are 6th through 12th grade and have an interest to be on our select team contact Sam Chadwell for more information. Most practices and match play will be held at Blossom Tennis Center in San Antonio.

Home schoolers and public schoolers who are not playing for their school are welcome to join the Calvary Baptist Team.  No experience is necessary.  We will teach you how to play.  The program will include opportunities for beginner through advanced level play.

The CBA tennis team does not have official practices scheduled in the summer and fall, but players interested  to join the CBA spring tennis season are encouraged to practice on their own year round to achieve the best possible results.  Check with Coach Sam Chadwell for off season training options like Junior Team Tennis, Hill Country Cup, private lessons, and other local extra curricular tennis events.

2019 Season Information

JTT has three travel team seasons in which Blossom teams compete against other local greater San Antonio area teams. Winners of San Antonio's local area competition advance into a state championship versus other Texas cities.  Winners of the summer state championship have an opportunity to compete for a National Title

Blossom Summer Travel Team: We will select our program's top eight 14's and 18's players to train and travel to a National Qualifying Tournament in June.  To be considered for selection on the National Travel Team you need to be actively playing USTA Challenger, Champ, or Super Champ divisions.  Contact Coach Sam Chadwell for more details and to be considered for selection. 

 Blossom Fall and Spring Travel Team:  Fall Season Travel Team Runs September October November and Spring Travel Team Season runs end of February thru end of April.

Blossom In House League Play Nights: Blossom ‘In-House’ leagues are for players of all skill levels.  The purpose of this program is to develop and prepare fparticipants for upcoming JTT seasons, school tennis, and tournament play. In-House League Play Nights and Play Days meet on selected Friday and Saturday  evenings at Blossom Tennis Center.   Cost for each play night is $20.  Sign up in advance.  There is limited space available.

Day/Time: Saturday Oct 12 and Friday Oct 25  6 to 7:30 PM

Yellow Ball 12’s, 14’s, 16’s and 18’s

Spring Season JTT Travel Dates:  Sundays, Mar 23. 30, April 7, 28. and May 5. Matches will be played at McFarlin and Anne Marie Tennis Centers.  Practice dates will be selected Saturdays at Blossom Tennis Center.

Cost is $104 total per player.  $60 payable to Sam Chadwell and $44 payable to USTA Tennis-Link.   Deadline to join a team is Feb 28.  Contact Coach Sam for registration instructions.

The Sat Feb 22 event will meet rain or shine.  If there is inclement weather we will watch pro match videos and discuss strokes, strategies, and patterns of play as well as answer your  questions about the upcoming JTT season.

If you are not participating on a Blossom JTT Team cost is $20. If you are registering for the Spring JTT Season cost is $60 total, plus you you will need to pay $44 online registration to usta-tennis link.

Home schoolers and public schoolers who are not playing for their school are welcome to join the Calvary Baptist Team.  No experience is necessary.  We will teach you how to play.  The program will include opportunities for beginner through advanced level play.


The CBA tennis team does not have official practices scheduled in the summer and fall, but players interested  to join the CBA spring tennis season are encouraged to practice on their own year round to achieve the best possible results.  Check with Coach Sam Chadwell for off season training options like Junior Team Tennis, Hill Country Cup, private lessons, and other local extra curricular tennis events.

Coach Sam Chadwell

ABOUT COACH SAM:  Coach Sam Chadwell has been involved in the tennis industry for nearly thirty years as a player, coach, and community organizer. Sam is currently employed as a tennis professional at Blossom Tennis Center in San Antonio, Head Tennis Coach for Calvary Baptist Academy New Braunfels and is also working in partnership with the City of San Marcos and USTA-Texas to provide player development programs and activities for San Marcos and surrounding hill country area communities.

Sam is a committed Christian and is always ready to give a testimony for the hope that dwells within him.  Sam has held numerous rankings and won many awards throughout his tennis career but considers surrendering his life to Jesus Christ as his life's greatest accomplishment. To God be the Glory.

Private Tennis Lessons:  Pay as you go:  $60/ hour.  Lessons can be semi private and you can split the cost with a doubles partner or friend.  Family Lessons are also available at the private lesson rate.  Unlimited family members = same hourly rate.

Save Money With Lesson Package Deals:  $50/hour package price.  Must purchase 2 or more lessons in advance.  Best deal is purchase a $300 package of 6 hours and get an additional bonus  7th hour FREE.   Contact Coach Sam for a custom invoice if you have siblings or want to purchase lessons increments other than the six hour special deal

Calvary Baptist Academy hosts a select tennis team that competes in a spring season running mid February through mid April. The program includes practices, organized match play, and tournament competition.

Home School Tennis is one of Coach Sam's great passions.  He has been working in home school communities since the 1990's and is a home school parent, himself.  The core tenant of home school tennis is games based fun family time in a relaxed tennis environment.   Cost for a four group lesson package is $50 for an individual and $75 for a family age 8 through adult.  Separate classes can also be organized for children age 5-7.  Loaner racquets are available.  Fall sessions will start after Labor Day. If you don't see a time slot or lesson location that fits your family's needs contact Sam about other events and options.  Let's Play Tennis!
